Hospital  Advocacy

Advocate for Mental Health provide Independent Mental Health Advocates (IMHA) for detained patients, and general advocacy support for voluntary patients.

We work at the St. Charles and Gordon hospitals and at Woodfield Road and South Kensington & Chelsea mental health units. Advocates at the hospitals can be contacted by calling:

Community Advocacy

We provide community mental health advocacy to residents of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster who wish to use, are using, or have previously used mental health services. Our community advocacy service is provided from our offices at Ladbroke Grove and we also provide surgeries at Westminster Mind and at SMART. LGBT Advocacy Service

We offer a mental health advocacy service to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community of Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea. If you live outside of these boroughs we will signpost you to other organisations in your own borough that may be able to support you. This free and confidential service was developed to meet the specific needs of LGBT people who often face discrimination, homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism. Older Peoples' Advocacy

We offer a specialist IMHA and general mental health advocacy service for older people living in Kensington & Chelsea and this is provided at South Kensington & Chelsea Mental Health Unit. BME Advocacy

Our BME service is provided across both boroughs in the community and in the hospitals that we work in. We provide first language advocacy in Arabic, Farsi, French and Somali. Please contact Bilal El-Harass, Sanaz Hedayati or Sadia Abdi: 020 8969 3000

Forensic Advocacy

Advocate for Mental Health provide the advocacy service at HMP Wormwood Scrubs for prisoners on the Health Wing at the prison. Emma Turner provides this service and can be contacted on: 020 8969 3000

User Involvement

Natasha Lobo leads on the work that we do to support user involvement. She is based at the Gordon Hospital and facilitates User Forums and supports  service users to engage with and influence service developments.

Training

We provide free self advocacy training for service users twice a year. These courses are extremely popular. Please contact Bilal El-Harass to find out when our next course is taking place. We provide training to organisations wishing to support their staff to understand the role of advocacy, or to gain advocacy skills. Our training is available to both statutory and voluntary sector organisations. Please contact Stella Blair for more information.
